Obituary of Dolores Jayo

Dee (Dolores) Jayo, a beloved resident of Grand View, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at St. Luke's Magic Valley in Twin Falls. She was 90 years old.

Dee was born on March 28, 1933, in Monroe, Wisconsin, to William and Florence Roth. She grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm, where she took pride in working alongside her dad and brothers. Keeping up with them was never a problem, as she had a deep love for outdoor work.

After graduating, she attended the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, where she earned a degree in Secondary Education. Following her college years, she embarked on a remarkable journey, touring across Europe on a bicycle not once but twice. Upon her return, she took her first teaching job just outside of Chicago. It was not long before she sought a way out of the big city and found her calling in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she aspired to learn how to ski on the famous Baldy hill in Sun Valley.

While teaching in Twin Falls, she attended a dance in Silver City, Idaho, with some teaching friends from Owyhee County. It was there that she met a rambunctious bachelor named Fred Jayo. On June 6, 1964, Dee married Fred, and together, they began a life of farming and ranching in Little Camas, Oreana, and Grand View. Dee also took a job at Grand View High School, which eventually became Rimrock High School. Over the course of 40 years, she dedicated herself to teaching and coaching multiple generations of students in the valley.

During her active life, Dee never sat still. You could see her each morning riding her bike nine miles to school, waving to her sons passing by in their pickups. She loved coaching high school sports, riding her horses in the Owyhee Mountains, playing softball, bowling, sharing coffee with friends, and, of course, golfing, which she continued well into her late eighties. She achieved her goal of visiting all fifty states, with a memorable trip with Randall’s family to Hawaii in 2013, the last state on her list. One of the small highlights of her active lifestyle was watching her Green Bay Packers secure a victory alongside her grandson the day before she passed.

Dee faced challenges in her life, including the early loss of her husband, Fred, her battle with cancer, and the heartbreaking loss of her youngest son, Dean. However, her competitive spirit and unwavering determination kept her moving forward.

Dee cherished her family through thick and thin, taking pride in their accomplishments and sharing activities with them until the end. Words cannot adequately express how much she will be missed.

Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her son Dean, her parents William and Florence Roth, her brothers Bud and Jim, and her sisters Jean and Caroline. She is survived by her brother, Ned of Broadhead, Wisconsin, her son Randall and his wife Launa of Eden, her grandson Nic Jayo of Fruitland, her granddaughter Natalie Lammers and her husband Garret of Jerome, her granddaughter Brittney West and her husband Dusty of Stanton, Texas, her granddaughter Freddi Jayo of Worland, Wyoming, two great-granddaughters, Ryanne and Harper Lammers, daughter-in-law Heather Gifford-Kelly of Morgan, Utah, and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Aaron Brown for his guidance, support, caring, and love for Dee.

A celebration of Dee's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, at the Oreana Community Hall in Oreana, Idaho. Lunch will be served after the graveside service in the hall. Memorials and donations can be made to Desert Canyon Junior Golf in Mountain Home or The Oreana Community Hall.
