Obituary of Pauline Margery Colyer

    Pauline Margery Colyer, 92 years of age passed away on Wednesday, October 18 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Pauline was born September 4, 1931 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Lloyd Myrl Bailey, and Josephine Margery Caudle.

Pauline was the oldest daughter of eight children: Tony, Sylven, Carol, Judy, Mark, Luke, and Rosalie. She also had two older step brothers, Keith and Robert, and one step sister Goldie.

    As a young child, Pauline lived in Pumpkin Hollow, Deadwood, on the Curtis Homestead. Then later moved to House Creek on the Maurice Guerry Ranch. They would travel  back and forth several times over the years to accomplish the ranching that needed to be done. She attended a one room schoolhouse at House Creek up until the eighth grade. When the folks moved into Rogerson, so the kids could attend a higher level of school. Pauline’s love of animals was established with the chores on the ranch. Pauline attended to all the animals, which included cows, sheep, horses, chickens, pigs, turkeys, geese, and ducks. Her father contracted hay on the

surrounding ranches in the summer using buck rakes and derricks. He also ran a government trap line in the winter. Trapping coyotes and bobcats. Lloyd later had three trucks that he custom hauled sheep into Rogerson, so they could put them on the train cars to be hauled out for shipment. This left Josephine to attend the ranch and care for the children. In which Pauline, being the eldest, was a great help.

    When Clifford Henry Colyer returned from service in the Korean War. He and Pauline were married in Elko, Nevada on August 7, 1948. As Pauline was not yet 18 years old. It was required that her mother Josephine, with little brother Mark in

tow. Attend the wedding in Elko with them. Cliff and Pauline had three daughters, Linda Carol, Margie Marlene, and Stacie Vennita. Pauline worked various jobs throughout her life but most notable was being a school bus driver. For which she won and award. She was also a rural mail carrier, both in Gardnerville, Nevada. They lived on a white two story ranch house on the Heritage ranch. This home was a warm gathering place, and a comfort for grandkids and family.             
    Later she became part owner, bookkeeper, and part runner of Lot C and M Automotive in Grand View, Idaho. Some of Pauline’s interests included music, she was a self taught accordion and piano player. Pauline enjoyed singing, and was often

found singing in the car on road trips. As well as a  self taught seamstress, and sewed the square dancing outfits for her and Cliff. She loved to draw paint, and work with  ceramics. She was a true farm woman throughout her life as she continued to care for animals like the bummer lambs, cows, and chickens. It was not uncommon for the children to wake up to a baby calf in the kitchen warming by the heater. She loved flowers, and to plant things to watch them grow. She practiced gardening and self sufficiency her whole life. She was very creative and with little ingredients, she would still manage to come up with clever cakes for family birthdays. She would entertain her kids and grandkids with her imaginative pancake animal designs.

    Pauline is survived by her three daughters. She had 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, both parents, all of her brothers, including two step brothers and a step sister. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Clifford Colyer, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
