Obituary of Hampton Warren Wright

Hampton Warren Wright, 92, of Mountain Home, Idaho, went peacefully to his eternal rest on September 1, 2023.

Hampton or “Hamp” as he was affectionately known by those who knew him, was born in Bamberg, SC on June 11, 1931, to Hampton and Hattie (Compton) Wright.

At 20, Hamp enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951, until retiring after 25 years of service in November 1977, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon retirement, he worked in a civilian capacity for the Air Force until he again retired in February 1997. His experience in the Air Force played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Air Force taught him the value of discipline and investing in a cause larger than himself. He would explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success upon returning home. His work afforded him to stationed to such places as Germany and Japan, while taking his family along for the ride.

In his early twenties, Hamp fell in love with Mary Cooper, a seamstress. The two married on November 20, 1955, the pair married and went on to raise three children, Gilda, Rosnal “Ross” and Contee “Chuck.”

Hamp was an avid Boise State football fan. He could often be seen sporting one of his many unique pieces of Boise paraphernalia. He would travel far and wide to watch them play in person.

Hamp was a long-time member of Sabre Lodge #7 where he rose in rank and became a Grand Master. He was highly involved in helping new members learn rites and progress through the degrees of freemasonry.

Hamp was a wonderful example of a man, a husband, a father, and a friend. He always had time for others and was the first to lend a hand to someone in need. As such, he will be greatly missed.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, two children, Contee "Chuck" Wright and Gilda Prysock and son-in law, Willie (Bill) Prysock. He leaves to cherish his memory, son Ross Wright; grandchildren: Nicole Prysock, Gregory Prysock, Lavelle Wright, and Faith Wright, four great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brian Lee, Charles Taylor, Greg Taylor, Gary Taylor, and Angela Taylor.
