Obituary of Sharon Blanthorn

Sharon Franks Blanthorn, born December 27, 1948 to George A. and Merna A. (Nelson) Franks in Burley, Cassia Co. ID. The youngest of 5 children and the only girl. Sharon was raised and educated in Oakley, Idaho.  Where she met and married Dale Blanthorn in September of 1966. They moved to Montello, Nevada and worked on the Gambel Ranch where their first son Lee, was born. They went to work for Simplot Land and Livestock first living in Grouse Creek, Utah. Then the PX Ranch in North Fork, Nevada; where their second son LaMont (Tub) Blanthorn was born. They then moved to Bruneau, Idaho in 1971. In 1983 they went to work for the O1 Ranch, in Bruneau Idaho. In 1989 her husband left ranching and went to work for Pur-Gro, retiring from there in 2008.

Sharon spent her early years of marriage not only raising their 2 sons but cowboying along with her husband. She always said it was amazing how you cleaned house, cooked for a crew, kept frozen new-born calves alive in the house and helped with the cattle on horseback, with one son in front and the other in a backpack. (And the comment was always made how hard another woman worked). She was an avid team roper until her boys got old enough to rodeo. From then on she spent her time hauling them to rodeos. She was a director in the high school rodeos, points keeper and the mom no one wanted to have mad at you. She loved that reputation. Her boys were her life and she was very proud of them. She loved photography, scrapbooking, and making something out of found objects for friends and family.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 57 years, her son Lee and his wife Beckie Blanthorn of Battle Mountain Nevada. Her son LaMont (Tub) Blanthorn of Oreana Idaho. Three wonderful grandchildren; Lena, Amy, and Graden, her sister-in-law Beverly of Oakley Idaho, her sister-in-law Karen of Great Falls, Virginia, her beloved neices and nephews and their children.  She was preceded in death by her brother James, her mother Merna, her niece Kimalee, her brother Keith, her brother Kay, her brother Allen, her sister in-law Beth and her father George. Sharon requested no services, but if sometimes in the coming years you get together at the local coffee shop, buy an extra cup for her.
