Herl Henry “Hank” Kilgo

June 27, 1931 to February 13, 2022

 

We celebrate our beloved father Herl Henry “Hank” Kilgo, proceeded in death by wife Roni Kilgo. He is the father of Chantal, Michael, and John (Maria).  Hank was born to John and Pearl Kilgo on June 27, 1931, in Jasper County, Cullman Alabama and was the second oldest of 6 brothers and sisters.  Hank is survived by his sisters Johnny and Vi and proceeded by his brothers Leo, Harlan, and Wally.  Hank was born in a dirt floor farmhouse; premature and undersized he was classified as an “Oven Baby” and needed an oven’s warmth to survive.  Despite a challenging start Hank grew up strong and lightning fast and enjoyed brotherly adventures and worked hard for his depression era family. Hank moved from Cullman, Alabama in his late teens and migrated north to Detroit where he worked and played until he answered his countries call joining the US Air Force in 1952 serving his country honorably in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following 20 years in the Air Force Hank served in the Civil Service for 20 years mastering carpentry, painting, and many other skills.  Hank was blessed to retire in 1991 and enjoyed 31 years of retirement.   Hank’s generosity was legendary and his love for children was second to none.   Hank met the LOVE OF HIS LIFE Roni Kilgo in England and they married in 1961. The Kilgo’s, a military family, traveled the world with stops in England, Spain, New Mexico, and California before settling in Idaho in 1971. Hank cherished his Mountain Home friends and community the rest of his life.  Hank was a committed and devote Catholic dedicating his life to Christ and was highly involved in his church community.

 

Hank and Roni are a match made in Heaven and wonderfully complement each other as they generously shared their home, dinner table, loving spirit, and welcoming heart with everyone they met. Family and friends recall great meals, warm hugs, and big laughs fueled by Hank’s country charm.  Hank left his loving touch on his three grandchildren Brian, Helen, Olivia (Michael) and his great grandchildren Grayson and Easton.  They will forever cherish their special times with their Papa.

 

Hank was fiercely passionate and loyal to his family and friends and loved his special gym community working out almost daily throughout his long life.  Hank loved a good western and was quick to tell a funny story and share his pleasing laugh.  If you were blessed to know Hank you appreciated his relaxed and easy style.  “Until We Meet Again”, We think about you always, we talk about you still, you have never been forgotten, and you never will.  We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives, until we meet again.”

 

Hank Kilgo, an amazing and wonderful husband, father, and friend is missed and revered by all that knew him.  May God Bless and hold Hank in his arms until we meet again.

 

Mass Memorial will be held at 12 Noon on March 4, 2022, at Our Lady of Good Counsel, in Mtn Home.  Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
