Gwendolyn Jessie Thomas

January 20, 1949 – January 5, 2022

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Thomas came into this world in the old rock hospital on January 20, 1949, the second child of Albert Gus Thomas and Avelina Roa Thomas in Owyhee, Nevada.

Her childhood activities included, 4-H, FHA, band, athletics, as well as horses, cooking and beading. She graduated from Owyhee High School in 1967. Gwen Continued her education at Haskell Institute, graduating in Business in 1969. In 1973, she completed the Community Health Representative Training Course.

While raising a house full of children, Gwen spent most of her career in secretarial positions from Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and finally back to Nevada as a Tribal Enrollment Secretary, where she ended her 30-year career. Once retired, she loved visitors and the spontaneous drop-in's from her grandchildren. She also spent many hours doing her beadwork, and her house always smelled like something good was on the stove.

Gwen is survived by her Aunt Josie Dickson, her half-sister Edith Crawford, siblings Albert “Sonny” (Sandy) Thomas, Samuel (Millie) Thomas, Daniel Thomas, Patricia (Earl) Johnson, and Michael (Angie) Thomas. Her children Sandy (Ted) Stearns, Michael (Eleanor) Shane, Joseph (Jocelyn) Cummins, Trista Smith, Michelle (Jared Barr) Martinez, and her grandchildren, Aliassa, Julianne and Gabriel, Logan, Sadie, Gracie and Zane, Treyvin, Silas and Aaliyah, as well as many other family members and friends.

Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Avelina Thomas.
